BERKELEY - The 2012 Cal football training camp hit the two-week mark on Friday when the team took to Witter Rugby Field for a single practice. After the workout, head coach Jeff Tedford talked to the media and here's some of what he had to say.
HEAD COACH JEFF TEDFORD
On the state of the team two weeks into training camp
"When you're at practice, whatever it is No. 15, No. 16, there are a lot of sore bodies, but guys worked through it really well and were focused."
On the team's starting offensive line and rotation
"If we played tomorrow those five [LT Tyler Rigsbee, LG Jordan Rigsbee, C Brian Schwenke, RG Chris Adcock, RT Matt Summers-Gavin] would be the starters. [Geoff] Gibson is still in the rotation, [Bill] Tyndall is in the rotation, some of the young guys - Steven Moore and [Matt] Cochran are right there. We're still working Freddie [Tagaloa] a little bit. We might still bring him along."
On defensive lineman Aaron Tipoti
"He's doing fine. He's quick, he uses his hands really well, and he runs to the ball. He's got a lot of experience, he plays hard. Everything he brings to the inside, he brings to the outside as well."
On being back in Memorial Stadium Saturday
"We'll do the beginning of [the second] practice using all the gear [at Witter Rugby Field], all the sleds and all the equipment we need to use out here. Then for team work we'll go down there [to the stadium] where we don't need any equipment."
On what the team did Thursday in Memorial Stadium
"We really tested to see how the ball bounced, because different fields bounce differently on kicks and things like that. We're just trying to simulate as much as we can the things that are going on."
