BERKELEY - The Cal football team had a single workout on the 11th day of its 2012 training camp Tuesday and during a post-practice session with the media head coach Jeff Tedford's remarks included comments on Keenan Allen, Memorial Stadium, the installation of the offense, and the current state of the team's offense.
On Keenan Allen
"You're not going to find a guy in the country who is as natural and gifted, and has great instincts, is competitive, big and has great hands and understands the game [as Keenan]. But it all comes down to performance on the field this year. He had a great year last year, and now he's going into this year. He has all the gifts to be as good of a player as we've ever had here, and we've had a lot of good players here."
On the team's excitement about getting into Memorial Stadium soon
"I haven't asked them, but I could tell you yesterday walking down after practice we peeked inside the stadium, went to the edge and looked down there. It was like `wow' and people were like `I'm going to be the one to get the first touchdown in that stadium.' I know when we walk into that stadium ... I know there's going to be a lot of excitement to get in there. It looks beautiful. I can't wait to get in there and get the footing, and get the feel of it."
On the installation of the team's offense
"We're pretty much there. It's just a matter of continuing to rep that stuff, do it different ways. But, yeah, we've installed a lot."
On the current state of the team's offense
"I would say the offense is ahead of where the offense normally is at this time. I'm not sure if that means they're ahead of the defense, because usually the defense is ahead of the offense. So I'm not sure necessarily that they're ahead of the defense, but I think the offense is ahead of where they typically are at this time of camp."
