BERKELEY - Cal opened its second week of training camp Saturday with a pair of intense practices on the first double day. The Golden Bears were on the field at 9 a.m. PT for their first workout and by the time they walked off the field following their second practice of the day the sun was almost down. The practices were far enough apart that they were able to get a little sleep in between. Head coach Jeff Tedford was on the field about 30 minutes before the start of the first workout and was immediately greeted by the crew from the Back in Berkeley documentary being filmed during the team's 2012 training camp. The crew fitted the Bears' head coach with a microphone for a mic'd up session that will be used during a future episode of the show. The players were enthusiastic right from the beginning of the morning workout all the way through the end of practice. "We had a great morning practice," Tedford said simply. However, Tedford was not as enthused about the team's afternoon session. "I was not pleased with the afternoon practice," he said. "We started out very slow. The defense played well, but offensively we didn't execute very well in the first half of the second practice. We picked it up towards the end." When asked if that was to be expected from the first double day of camp, Tedford emphatically answered "it's never expected." "This is kind of a big day for us," Tyler Rigsbee said. "We've been in camp but we've had school so this is really the first day we've been able to come together and crank out a two-a-day, and teach the young guys what it's about to compete. You're going to be uncomfortable and it's going to be a grind, but that's what football is about. We're going to be a tough team." Cal will open the 2012 season against Nevada at a renovated Memorial Stadium on Sat., Sept. 1 (Noon PT). The contest will be televised live by Pac-12 Networks, and the radio broadcast will be available on the Cal IMG Sports Radio Network with KGO 810 in San Francisco serving as the flagship station. Tickets for Cal's return to a renovated Memorial Stadium in 2012 are currently on sale by calling (800) GO BEARS (800-462-3277), online at CalBears.com, or in person at the Sales and Service Center located in the Haas Pavilion Club Room Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. PT.
