Berkeley - The California football team practiced for 26 periods in helmets during Tuesday's fall drills at Memorial Stadium, focusing primarily on individual drills like 7-on-7 sessions, one-on-one exercises and even mixing in 11-on-11 workouts.

Even though the Bears practiced in only helmets for the second consecutive day, head coach Jeff Tedford continued to be impressed by the freshman class, commenting on their overall size and athleticism. Freshman Cameron Jordan especially stood out in 100-yard conditioning drills.

Some of the highlights during the one-on-one drills included a long-yardage reception by senior wide out Sam DeSa from Kevin Riley and a long pass and completion from Kyle Reed to senior receiver Sean Young.

The 7-on-7 exercises featured a couple of defensive highlights, including a pass breakup and interception (via a Thomas DeCoud tip) by sophomore Syd'Quan Thompson. Junior quarterback Nate Longshore hooked up with wide receiver DeSean Jackson for a 30-yard connection as well during the period.

During the 11-on-11 tutorials, freshman quarterback Brock Mansion completed a pass to tight end Julian Arthur for a sizeable gain.

The next practice is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon in shells. As a reminder, all California football practices are CLOSED to the public.
