The 76th annual Maxwell Award will honor the nation's outstanding college football player since 1937, while the CFPA released its watch lists Monday for the annual trophies it will give to the country's top players at the quarterback, running back, wide receiver and tight end positions. Allen is a preseason All-American and national honors candidate in 2012 after catching 98 passes for 1,343 receiving yards and six touchdown catches last season, with the receptions and receiving yards both ranking second on Cal's all-time single season lists behind school record holders Dameane Douglas (100 receptions in 1998) and Geoff McArthur (1,504 receiving yards in 2003). He has career totals of 144 receptions, 1,833 receiving yards and 11 touchdown catches in two seasons at Cal. His 144 career receptions are only 58 shy of all-time school leader Geoff McArthur's career total of 202 from 2000-04.
Sofele posted the sixth-biggest rushing season in school history in 2011 during his first campaign as a starter, running for 1,322 yards to give Cal nine 1,000-yard rushers in the past 10 seasons. He has played in all 38 games possible over his first three seasons with the Golden Bears and has career totals of 1,742 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns over 333 carries.
