BERKELEY - Cal Heisman Trophy candidate Jahvid Best answered questions from fans on the Bear Talk live chat on Thursday, June 25. Cal football beat writer Jonathan Okanes of the Contra Costa Times moderated the live chat.

In addition to Best's status as one of the nation's top Heisman Trophy candidates, the country's leading returning rusher has also earned first team preseason All-American honors in 2009. His 1,580 rushing yards a year ago marked the second-best single-season ever at Cal, while his 8.1 yards per carry set a new school record. Best was a first team All-Pac-10 selection in 2008.

Cal has been ranked as high as No. 9 (Phil Steele) in national team preseason rankings released by college football preview publications. The Golden Bears open their 2009 campaign with a nationally-televised ESPN2 game against Maryland at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, September 5 (7:00 p.m., PT).
