NEW YORK - Following his selection on April 28 by the New Orleans Saints as their first-round pick and the No. 24 overall choice in the 2011 NFL Draft, former Cal defensive lineman Cameron Jordan spoke with the media via teleconference. Following are selected comments of what he had to say.

CAMERON JORDAN
On what was going through his head when he wasn't selected as high as some projected
"I figured I was somewhere between No. 16 and No. 20, so after about No. 20 I started saying to [inaudible] `uh-oh, you lied to me, big guy.' Then he said `chill, don't worry about it, wait three or for more picks.' After the fourth pick I was taken. So I'm good. I didn't trip too much."

On his reaction to being selected as the New Orleans Saints' first-round pick
"It's kind of a blessing that I got picked up by such a great team."

On the recent NFL lockout and whether that affected him
"No, not at all. Eventually there will be football again and on that day I will be ready."

On who took the trip to New York City with him
"My whole family - my aunt, my mother and then I brought my cousin in. It's been pretty fun."

On how he spent his day in New York City prior to Thursday night's first round
"I had an amazing breakfast. I started off the day right. I did a whole bunch of interviews, went to Madison Square Garden and checked out a few different places. I just sort of roamed and figured out where I was ... not that I will need to get know the area, because apparently I'm going down south."

On his opportunity to play with the Saints, the XLIV Super Bowl champions following the 2009 season
"This is a team that definitely competes every year in the playoffs, so why not be a part of something great?"

On whether his dad [former Minnesota Vikings tight end Steve Jordan] that the Vikings didn't take him with the 12th pick overall
"I don't know if he was disappointed or not, but he definitely understands ..."
