(SANTA CLARA) - Ten former Cal football players are listed among those scheduled to participate in the 2011 49ers Local Pro Day on Wednesday at the NFL team's headquarters. NFL prospects who graduated high school or played collegiately within the area will meet with the 49ers coaching staff and take part in various field drills.
The former Cal players on the roster for the event include OLB Keith Browner, C Donovan Edwards, G Richard Fisher, C Chris Guarnero, CB Darian Hagan, NT Derrick Hill, DE Cameron Jordan, QB Kevin Riley, WR Jeremy Ross and RB Shane Vereen. Each player finished his collegiate career at Cal at the conclusion of the 2010 season.
The Pro Day is one of the tools used by NFL teams in preparation for the NFL Draft, which will take place Thursday-Saturday, Apr. 28-30, 2011, from Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
Cal has made a strong showing in the NFL Draft over the years with 25 former Cal players being selected in the first round, including the only two first-round picks from the Pac-10 in 2010 with the selections of DT Tyson Alualu (10th overall, Jacksonville Jaguars) and RB Jahvid Best (30th overall, Detroit Lions). The Bears have had six first-round picks and 32 overall selections since Jeff Tedford became the team's head coach in 2002.
Cal begins its 2011 season against Fresno State at Candlestick Park on Saturday, Sept. 3. Single-game tickets for the contest are available now at CalBears.com or by calling the Cal Athletic Ticket Office at (800) GO BEARS.
After playing the last 88 seasons and every home game at Memorial Stadium since the facility opened for the 1923 Big Game, Cal will host its home games outside of Berkeley for the first time in 2011 while Memorial Stadium undergoes an extensive renovation and retrofit.
Current season-ticket holders, participants in the Endowment Seating Program and those who placed donation deposits for Cal's 2011 home season have begun their seat-selection process for the games at AT&T Park. Season-ticket sales for the general public will begin on Monday, April 25, if available.
