BERKELEY - Chris Purtz has left the California football team for personal reasons, head coach Jeff Tedford announced on Friday. The Fresno product from Clovis West High School played in seven games on special teams in 2006, recording five tackles.

The Golden Bears, who advanced to a bowl game for the fourth straight year for the first time in program history in 2006, will open spring drills on March 12. The spring game is scheduled for April 14 while the 2007 season opener is Sept. 1 against Tennessee at Memorial Stadium.
