BERKELEY - California offensive coordinator Mike Dunbar has resigned to accept a coaching position at the University of Minnesota, Golden Bear head coach Jeff Tedford announced on Thursday. Tedford has begun the process to fill the position.

Dunbar took over offensive coordinator duties at California in February of 2006 after five years at Northwestern.

"This is a good opportunity for Mike and his family," Tedford said. "It is a good chance for him to be more involved with a spread offense. We appreciate his contributions to our program and wish him well in the future."

The Golden Bears posted a 10-3 record in 2006, capturing a share of the Pac-10 Championship and defeating Texas A&M, 45-10, in the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl. Cal's offense led the Pac-10 and ranked 11th in the nation in scoring at 32.8 points per game in 2006 - it marked the fifth straight year that Cal has ranked in the top 25 in the nation in scoring offense, one of just five teams to achieve that feat.

"This is an excellent opportunity for me and my family," Dunbar said. "I appreciate having had the opportunity to work with Coach Tedford and his staff. My family and I wish the best to the Cal Bear family."

The Golden Bears will begin spring practice on Monday, March 12 with the annual Spring Game scheduled for Saturday, April 14.
