BERKELEY - Due to high demand by prospective customers, the University of California will place new football season ticket packages on sale two months earlier than previously planned, Ray Krise, director of ticket operations, announced today.
Season tickets will go on sale to the general public Thursday, Feb. 5 at 12:01 a.m. online at www.CalBears.com and at 8:30 a.m. by calling (800) GO BEARS, marking the earliest date in Cal history. Tickets originally were scheduled to be sold beginning with the annual Blue-Gold Spring Game on Saturday, April 17.
"After the Big Game and Insight Bowl victories, and with the recent press about Cal being picked 10th by Sports Illustrated.com and No. 11 by ESPN.com in their early 2004 pre-season national rankings, there is more excitement about reserving season tickets than we previously anticipated," Krise said. "The ticket office - and even Coach (Jeff) Tedford - is receiving letters from proud alumni and many other Bay Area sports fans, who can't wait to buy tickets."
The 2004 home package, which includes Oregon, UCLA and the 107th Big Game against Stanford among the five games at Memorial Stadium, is priced as low $59 (the $59 general admission package excludes the Big Game, but allows for a discounted Big Game ticket to be purchased).
Under Tedford, the Golden Bears finished in a third-place tie in the Pac-10 with an overall record of 8-6, posting their first back-to-back winning seasons in 12 years in 2003 and registering the school's first bowl victory since 1994.
Krise said seating location priority for new reserved season ticket orders will be based on an individual's Bear Backer donation level, as well as when the new order was placed. Seat assignments will not be made until June 1, after season ticket renewal orders are fulfilled and availability can be determined. Ticket orders can be placed online at CalBears.com, by mail (Athletic Ticket Office, University of California, 2223 Fulton St., 1st Floor, Berkeley, CA 94720-4422) or by calling the Cal Athletic Ticket Office at (800) GO BEARS.
