BERKELEY - Former Cal quarterback Zach Maynard and running back Isi Sofele participated Saturday in the Raycom College Football All-Star Game and NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, respectively. Maynard was 2-of-8 for 15 yards in limited action off the bench for a Stars team that fell, 31-3, to a Stripes squad at the Raycom game at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Ala.
Sofele also saw limited action for an American squad that was defeated by the National roster, 34-0, at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Sofele carried the ball twice for three yards. Cornerback Marc Anthony and offensive lineman Brian Schwenke are the next former Cal players scheduled to compete in college all-star games this year. The duo will be in action at the Senior Bowl on Saturday, Jan. 26 (3 p.m. CT/1 p.m. PT, NFL Network) at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. Defensive lineman Kendrick Payne is scheduled to play in the Texas vs the Nation game on Saturday, Feb. 2 (1:30 p.m. CT/11:30 a.m. PT, FOX Sports Southwest) at Eagle Stadium in Allen, Tex. Others to have previously played in college all-star games this year include defensive back Josh Hill and defensive lineman Aaron Tipoti in the Casino del Sol All-Star game on Jan. 11. Sofele also played in that contest.
