TUCSON, Ariz. - Former Cal players Josh Hill, Isi Sofele and Aaron Tipoti are among 64 players expected to suit up for the 2013 Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game scheduled to be played at Kino Stadium on Friday, January 11. The contest is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. CT/6 p.m. PT and be telecast online by ESPN3.

Hill led the team in tackles with a career-high 87 stops in his final season at Cal in 2012 to rank 10th in the Pac-12 with an average of 7.2 stops per contest and earn honorable mention all-conference honors. He also added an interception and a forced fumble, as well as nine pass breakups and 10 passes defended to rank second on the club in each of the latter two categories and 11th in the conference in the latter (0.83 pdpg). In addition he earned a pair of team honors as a senior, capturing the Andy Smith Award for the player with the most Big "C" time and one of the squad's two Cort Majors Team Captain Awards on the defensive side of the ball. Hill finished his career with 214 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss (-18 yards), 1.0 sack (-4 yards), five interceptions with 46 return yards, 24 pass breakups, 29 passes defended, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 48 games played and 32 starts. His 24 career pass breakups rank 10th on the school's all-time list.

Isi Sofele


Sofele won the Cal Football Bear Backers MVP Award on the offensive side of the ball as a 2012 senior when he second on the club with 757 rushing yards on a team-high 146 carries, with his rushing yardage trailing team leader C.J. Anderson by only 33 yards. He played in all 12 games with eight starts and also co-led the team along with Anderson with four rushing scores while pacing the Bears in rushing five times as did Anderson. Sofele averaged 63.1 rushing yards per game to rank 11th in the Pac-12. He added seven catches for 67 yards and one kick return for 12 for a total of 836 all purpose yards to rank fourth on the squad. Sofele played in all 50 games possible with 23 starts over his four seasons at Cal, finishing with 2,499 career rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground to rank only five yards and one score outside the school's all-time top-10 list in each category. His nine 100-yard rushing games were 10th on the school's all-time list. Sofele finished his career with 3,133 all purpose yards, with the addition of 480 on 24 kick returns and 154 on 21 receptions. His 102 career points included his 15 rushing scores and an additional two receiving touchdowns.

Aaron Tipoti


Tipoti recorded a career-high 31 tackles in 2012, playing in 10 games with eight starts and adding 0.5 tackles for loss (-1 yard), one quarterback hurry and one fumble recovery. He finished his career with 91 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss (-31 yards), 1.5 sacks (-15 yards), two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one pass breakup in 43 games and 18 starts.

The 2013 Casino Del Sol College All-Star Game is the second annual post-season football exhibition of draft eligible college seniors. The game provides a platform for selected, elite athletes to showcase their talents to scouts from the NFL, CFL, and Arena teams.

Other former Cal players scheduled to play in post-season all-star games include Marc Anthony and Brian Schwenke at the Senior Bowl on January 26.
