A rugged linebacker who is slated to start at one of the inside linebacker positions ... gives the defense a veteran influence as he has started games in each of the past two seasons and has a good understanding of the system ... an aggressive player who is best stuffing the run ... goes about his business in a quiet manner, but there's no mistaking his toughness on the football field...also is one of the hardest workers on the Cal team, spending countless hours in the weight room.

1997: earned a starting assignment in his first year in the program, but went down with a serious knee sprain in the second quarter of the Houston opener and was slated to be out four to six weeks...made the decision to use a medical redshirt year, rather than come back late in the season and waste a year...had a pair of assisted tackles in the Houston game before the injury.
