Former Cal offensive lineman Jonathan Giesel worked for three seasons from 2007-09 as the director of student-athlete development before leaving the program in April of 2010. Giesel was responsible for the academic performance of the Cal football players, including the academic game plan. He also served as the liaison between the football program and the Berkeley campus.
An honorable mention All-Pac-10 selection at left guard in 2004, Giesel was a three-year starter and a two-time Pac-10 All-Academic honoree while playing with the Golden Bears.
Giesel worked at Fresno State as the CHAMPS/Life Skills Coordinator and an athletic academic advisor for two years before returning to Cal. He also played international football for one year in Japan.
A native of Los Banos, Calif., Giesel earned his master's degree in education from UC Berkeley in 2005 after earning his bachelor's degree in religious studies in 2004.
