Foster is in his 39th season as a college or high school coach this year.
Foster has come out of retirement twice to join Jeff Tedford's staff at Cal, first in 2002 and again this past spring.
When he was defensive coordinator at Oregon from 1998-99, the Ducks combined for a 17-7 record and earned a pair of bowl invitations.
Foster spent 19 years on staff at UC Davis, including a four-year run as head coach from 1989-92 during which the Aggies compiled a 30-1-1 record and advanced to the NCAA Division II playoffs in both 1989 and '92.
Among the players Foster coached at UC Davis are Mike Bellotti (now Oregon's head coach), Oregon defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti, Colorado head coach Dan Hawkins and Boise State head coach Chris Petersen.
As UC Davis' defensive coordinator, Foster's team ranked ninth nationally in total defense (216.4 ypg) in 1981, fourth in rushing defense (97.3 ypg) and sixth in scoring defense (12.6 ppg) in 1982, and fifth in scoring defense (10.2 ppg) in 1984.

Nick Aliotti (UC Davis) - all-conference running back; 31-year coaching career; currently defensive coordinator at Oregon
Dan Hawkins (UC Davis) - entering 11th year as a collegiate coach and first at Colorado
Chris Petersen (UC Davis) - 1993 Hall of Fame inductee at Davis; currently head coach at Boise State
Accomplishments as a Player
Foster was a four-year letterman as a running back at UC Davis from 1958-61.
He was inducted into the Aggies' Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002.
