With the 2012 season winding down for both California men's and women's crew, the seniors on both squads took a minute to reflect on their time at Cal. Below are the farewell comments from each senior as they close out their final campaigns at Cal.
"My time at Cal went very quickly. It seems only yesterday that I arrived and now it's almost over. I have many feelings about that. I'm excited, happy, sad, scared, you name it - I have felt it!! But most of all, I am proud, proud to have been a part of such an amazing program, part of an amazing school and proud of everything I have done. I am proud to have lived for four years with no regrets - that's the key to succeeding at Cal. Go bears!!"
"Being a student-athlete at Cal has been one of the best experience of my life. It has been a challenging four years, but at the same time, it has been very rewarding. Being a part of the Cal community is something that I will treasure forever. It doesn't matter where you are, whether its New York or Amsterdam, Los Angeles or San Francisco -- if you're wearing anything with the script Cal, you will always get a GO BEARS!"
"My family helped get me here. My coaches presented me with new challenges every day, and my teammates battled with me through the whole thing!"
"My experience as a student-athlete at Cal has been the best of my life. I have been lucky enough to be a part of two teams here- the swim team for one year, and the rowing team for the past four. The journey has been full of ups and downs, but I've met the greatest people and have learned so much about myself along the way. Go Bears!"
"Whether you think that you can or you can't, you're usually right.' I chose this because it makes you think about the way that your own thoughts and limitations can hold you back. One thing that I've learned while rowing at Cal is that sometimes the hardest person to convince that you're going to do well is yourself. Cal crew has taught me that if you believe that you can succeed, you will. But if you convince yourself that you're going to fail, you most certainly will."
"My time at Cal has been truly amazing. I have learned a lot about myself, and I have been given the resources to develop into the person I want to be. Although getting up at 5:30 a.m. every morning for the past four years has not always been easy, it has always been worth it. I have been so lucky to be on a team where everyone shows up ready to work hard every day. Although I am sad that I will not be on the team next year, I find some comfort in the thought that I will ALWAYS be a Golden Bear. Go Bears!"
"Being a student-athlete at Cal has been one of the best decisions of my life. I am surrounded by greatness in both the classroom and amongst my teammates, which has pushed me to new limits. Sure, my time at Cal has presented me with my hardest challenges - whether it was a complicated problem set or excruciatingly hard practice - but I know I can rise to the challenge because that's what bears do. I may be leaving Cal, but I will always keep that Golden Bear state of mind."
