No. 13 California returns to Madison Square Garden tonight to face Ohio State in the consolation game of the 2K Sports Classic Benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer. This trip marked the first time the Golden Bears played in Madison Square Garden since they won the NIT Championship in 1999. Cal will face No. 15 Ohio State on Friday at 2 p.m. (PT). The final of the tournament will be played after the Cal game, featuring Syracuse and North Carolina.

The Bears suffered their first defeat of the season vs. Syracuse last night in the first semifinal contest. Senior guard Jerome Randle, playing in his 100th career collegiate contest, paced the Bears with 25 points, including going 5-for-9 from behind the arc. Sophomore guard Jorge Gutierrez made his first collegiate start, filling in for the injured Theo Robertson. Randle and fellow senior guard Patrick Christopher have reached double figures in all three games this season. Christopher put up 12 points against the Orange last night.

With his 25 points last night, Randle moved up to 15th on the school's all-time scoring list. Christopher is 18th with 1,197 points. Randle is also just one assist away from tying Shantay Legans for sixth all time in school history at 386 career assists.

Last season's top rebounder on the team, senior forward Jamal Boykin, currently leads this year's squad with an average of 7.7 rpg. Boykin had 14 points and a team-best eight rebounds vs. Syracuse last night. Also helping out on the boards last night was sophomore Omondi Amoke, who snared six rebounds.

Making his first three starts as a Bear, junior center Markhuri Sanders-Frison, a transfer from South Plains College, has made his presence felt immediately, snaring six rebounds against Syracuse last night.

Sophomore center Max Zhang had a career game against Detroit on Nov. 11. Zhang, the tallest player in school history at 7-3, scored a career-best seven points and four rebounds. He followed that performance with a career-high six rebounds vs. the Orange last night.
