BERKELEY - The Cal men's basketball team will make at least 20 appearances on television during the 2010-11 regular season, including eight national games on Fox Sports Net and all three games at the Old Spice Classic in Orlando, Fla., that will be on the ESPN family of networks. Six Golden Bear contests will also be shown on CSN California.
Cal will square off against Temple in the first round of the 2010 Old Spice Classic on Thursday, Nov. 25, at 6 p.m. PT on ESPN2. The event will include 12 games in three days, with games telecast on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU. Joining Cal in the field are Boston College, Georgia, Manhattan, Notre Dame, Temple, Texas A&M and Wisconsin.
FSN will make its first trip to Berkeley on Wednesday, Dec. 22, when the Bears welcome the Kansas Jayhawks at 8 p.m. in Cal's biggest nonconference game of the season. All national FSN games will air on CSN Bay Area.
Other FSN games include the Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series game against Iowa State in Ames, Iowa, at 11 a.m. (PT). Cal will also be seen on FSN for two Sunday home games this year - Jan. 16 vs. Washington and Feb. 20 vs. UCLA. Both of those games will start at 7 p.m. The Bears have two 8 p.m. Thursday night starts at Haas Pavilion on FSN this season - Jan. 27 vs. Oregon State and Feb. 3 vs. Arizona State.
The first game shown on CSN California will be the Northern California clash between Cal and UC Davis Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 7:30 p.m. Later in the season, CSN California will televise both road games in the state of Oregon - Thursday, Feb. 24, at Oregon and Saturday, Feb. 26 at Oregon State.
The Cal-USC game on Saturday, Jan. 22, at 8 p.m. in Los Angeles will be on CSN Plus.
The regular-season finale against Stanford at Haas on March 5 is one of the FSN Wildcard selections, and a tip time for that game will be determined at a later date.
Cal finished the 2009-10 campaign with a 24-11 overall record and a 13-5 Pac-10 record en route to its first conference crown in 50 years. The Bears also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season under head coach Mike Montgomery.
Juniors Jorge Gutierrez and Harper Kamp will provide the veteran presence for the 2010-11 squad. Gutierrez, who averaged 5.5 ppg a year ago, will be called upon to be one of the Bears' key contributors after Cal lost five seniors from its' Pac-10 championship squad. Kamp redshirted last season as he recovered from knee surgery following the 2008-09 season. Kamp and senior Markhuri Sanders-Frison will lead the Bears in the front court.
