BERKELEY - The California men's basketball program announced tip times for 14 games with the addition of six to be shown on Comcast SportsNet California during the 2011-12 season on Wed., Oct. 12. Five other games will be streamed live on CalBears.com All-Access.
Comcast SportsNet California will be at Haas Pavilion to broadcast the Golden Bears' Pac-12 opener against USC on Thurs., Dec. 29, at 6 p.m. PT. In January, CSN California will broadcast both the Colorado game (Thurs., Jan. 12 - 8 p.m.) and the Utah game (Sat., Jan. 14 - 7:30 p.m.) from Berkeley.
Three more games will appear on CSN California in February. Cal's game against Arizona State (Sat., Feb. 4) will tip at 2 p.m., and its game against Oregon is set for a 7:30 p.m. start on Thurs., Feb. 16. CSN wraps up its broadcast schedule with the Bears' game against Oregon State on Sat., Feb. 18, at 7 p.m.
In all, Cal is currently scheduled to appear on television in at least 19 games, beginning with a 6:30 p.m. PT ESPNU broadcast against George Washington as part of the Progressive College Basketball Experience Classic on Sun., Nov. 13. ESPN2 will carry Cal's Nov. 15 game against Austin Peay, and ESPN will broadcast the Cal-Georgia game from Kansas City, Mo. on Nov. 21.
In pre-conference road games, the Bears will make television appearances in games against San Diego State and UNLV. The Sun., Dec. 4, game against the Aztecs will tip at 2 p.m. PT on The Mountain (MTN) and the Fri., Dec. 23, game at the Runnin' Rebels will be broadcast by the CBS College Sports Network.
All of Cal's games can be heard on the radio at 910 AM KNEW. Roxy Bernstein will call the action and Todd McKim will provide in-game color commentary.
The Bears open fall practices on Fri., Oct. 14, and are coming off an 18-15 season in 2010-11 that saw them advance to the second round of the National Invitational Tournament. After being picked to finish seventh in the conference, Cal tied for fourth in the Pac-10.
Cal returns four starters, led by first-team All-Pac-10 selection and team MVP senior guard Jorge Gutierrez, who paced the squad in scoring with 14.6 ppg. Sophomore guard Allen Crabbe, the 2011 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, set the school's freshman record for three-pointers made (62). Senior forward Harper Kamp and junior guard Brandon Smith are also back. The Bears will welcome returning reserves Bak Bak, Emerson Murray, Jeff Powers, Richard Solomon, and Robert Thurman, as well as 2010-11 redshirts Justin Cobbs and Alex Rossi. New additions to the squad include freshmen forwards David Kravish (6-9, 210) and Christian Behrens (6-8, 190), as well as two freshman walk-on guards, Rob Filley (6-4, 195) and Raffi Chalian (5-11, 165).
