DENVER - The Denver Nuggets have announced that former California men's basketball standout Jorge Gutierrez has been named to the NBA club's summer league roster.

Gutierrez, the 2012 Pac-12 Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, painted his name throughout the Cal record books during his career in Berkeley. He became just the second player in program history (Hall of Famer Kevin Johnson was the first) to record 1,000 points, 400 assists, and 400 rebounds his Golden Bear career. The guard completed his collegiate career ranked 20th in school history in career points (1,232), fifth in career assists (423), fifth in career steals (148), and fourth in career games played (129).

"There is a not a kid that has worked harder than Jorge to put himself in this position and he will do a tremendous job for Denver," California head men's basketball coach Mike Montgomery said. "Jorge deserves it. He will certainly make his family and the Cal basketball family proud at the next level."

Gutierrez ranked second on the Bears in scoring (13.0 ppg.) and assists (4.1 apg.) and third in rebounding (5.3 rpg.) as a senior in 2011-12. Besides becoming the first player in conference history to collect league player of the year and defensive player of the year laurels in the same season, Gutierrez was also selected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Reese's Division I College All-Star team, the NABC District 20 squad, the USBWA All-District team following the 2011-12 season.

He led Cal to a 24-10 overall record and a second-place finish in the Pac-12 Conference. The Bears earned an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament this past season.

Cal owned an 88-47 combined record and reached the postseason all four seasons with Gutierrez.
