New Season Ticket Select-A-Seat

The 2009-10 California men's basketball schedule features up to six nonconference opponents that won at least 20 games last season, all of which advanced to the postseason, and the Golden Bears have 16 games inside Haas Pavilion, head coach Mike Montgomery announced on Tuesday.

Cal begins the year Nov. 9 at home, and the Pac-10 slate starts in Berkeley on Jan. 2 when Stanford visits Haas Pavilion. The final home game is Feb. 27 against Arizona State. In all, the schedule calls for 30 regular-season games before the Pac-10 Tournament.

Cal opens the season with four games in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, which includes two contests in Berkeley and two more at Madison Square Garden in New York. The Bears tip off against a Murray State squad that won 19 games last year on Nov. 9 in Haas Pavilion before hosting Detroit Nov. 11. Regardless of the outcomes, Cal will then travel to New York for the championship rounds of the tournament, where the Bears will be joined Nov. 19-20 by defending national champion North Carolina, Syracuse and Ohio State.

After returning to the Bay Area, Cal will stay at home for three of their next four games. The Bears will host Jacksonville Nov. 24 and Princeton Nov. 29. Cal will square off against Jacksonville for the first time in school history, while the Bears are 2-1 vs. Princeton, with the last meeting being a 70-58 Cal victory to open the 2001-02 campaign.

After a trip to New Mexico Dec. 2 to face a Lobo team that won 20 games in 2008-09 - a rematch of Cal's NIT win in 2008 - the Bears will host Iowa State Dec. 5 as part of the Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series. ISU's Craig Brackins, who received All-America recognition in 2009, will lead the Cyclones into Haas Pavilion. Cal is 1-1 in the Hardwood Series, having split vs. Missouri the past two seasons. It will also be the first meeting between the Bears and Cyclones since ISU defeated Cal in the first round of the 1996 NCAA Tournament.

Cal will make a short trip to Stockton on Dec. 9 to face Pacific, another 20-game winner from last season, at the Stockton Arena. Following a break for final exams, the Bears will make their first visit to Kansas in 16 years when they face the Jayhawks Dec. 22. The 2008 NCAA champions, KU advanced to the Sweet 16 in last year's NCAA Tournament. The Bears then close out the nonconference portion of their schedule with the annual Golden Bear Classic Dec. 28 and 29. UC Santa Barbara, Furman and Utah Valley University join Cal in the field.

Non-conference opponents that reached the postseason last year are North Carolina (NCAA), Syracuse (NCAA), Kansas (NCAA), Ohio State (NCAA), Jacksonville (NIT), New Mexico (NIT) and Pacific (CIT). Among Pac-10 teams, eight opponents played in the postseason in 2009: Arizona (NCAA), Arizona State (NCAA), UCLA (NCAA), USC (NCAA), Washington (NCAA), Washington State (NIT), Stanford (CBI) and Oregon State (CBI).

Both the New Mexico and Kansas games are part of home-and-home series, as both the Lobos and Jayhawks will visit Cal in 2010-11.

All dates are subject to change and will not be finalized until the Pac-10 television schedule is announced prior to the start of the season. Tip-off times will also be determined at a later date.

Beginning July 6, Cal fans who wish to become new season ticket holders for the 2009-10 Men's Basketball season can RSVP for the Athletic Department's Select-A-Seat event, held on Wednesday, July 15 from 6-8pm at Haas Pavilion. For more information please click here.
