BERKELEY - Trevin Haseltine, a 6-3, 195-pound right-hander from Vacaville (Will C. Wood High School), would have to be considered one of Cal baseball's top recruits this year as he is ranked the No. 1 right-handed pitcher in California by Perfect Game USA. Haseltine joined the Golden Bears' class of eight signees who will join David Esquer's squad in the fall of 2013.Haseltine, who throws a 91-93 mph four-seam fastball with a curveball and a cut fastball, was selected a 2012 first-team Underclass All-American by Perfect Game USA after recording 61 strikeouts in 33.0 innings with a 1.70 ERA as a junior. Opponents batted only .176 against him as he gave up 24 hits in his 33.0 innings last spring. "Trevin will be a great addition to our program, giving us a power arm that will be versatile enough to pitch out of the bullpen, or start, depending on our needs," said Cal pitching coach Mike Neu, who was the star closer on Miami's 1999 College World Series championship team and pitched in the Major Leagues for the Oakland A's. "He has a deceptive delivery with late movement on his fastball that can be dominant at any level when he is pitching well. Trevin also gives us some great intangible traits as he is an outstanding competitor and teammate who the players in our program will gravitate toward." The Bears have finalized their spring schedule that features 25 home games at Evans Diamond, including hosting a three-game series against Michigan, Feb. 15-17 in Berkeley to open the 2013 campaign. Cal's non-conference schedule also includes a four-game series at UC Irvine, three games at the Houston College Classic (versus Baylor, North Carolina and Houston at Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros) and a four-game home series versus Fresno State. Cal will also be hosting Pac-12 series versus USC, Oregon, Washington State, Arizona State and Stanford this spring at Evans Diamond. Cal Baseball fans should also make plans to attend the second annual Fan Fest, Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Evans Diamond. Following the Fan Fest festivities, there will be a Blue-Gold intrasquad scrimmage beginning at 1 p.m.
