Seven Cal Baseball Players Named to Pac-10 All-Academic Team

WALNUT CREEK, CALIF. - The University of California baseball program has seven players selected to the 2006 Pac-10 All-Academic Team, it was announced today by Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen.

The Golden Bears' first-team Pac-10 All-Academic picks include senior shortstop Allen Craig (3.17 GPA in social welfare), junior infielder Brett Munster (3.41 GPA in mass communications) and senior right-hander Alex Trafton (3.28 GPA in Middle Eastern studies).

Second-team All-Academic honorees from Cal were sophomore outfielder Taylor Grigsby (3.31 GPA in political science) and senior outfielder Rob Nesbitt (3.21 in mass communications), while junior right-hander Michael Cooper and sophomore right-hander Nick Tess were on the honorable mention All-Academic list.

This season, Craig leads the Bears with a .348 average, 14 doubles and 10 home runs, and is second on the team with 31 RBI. Munster is batting .269 in 44 games with five doubles, a triple, three home runs and 16 RBI, while Trafton is 3-4 with a 4.26 ERA and three saves in a team-high 28 appearances. Craig, Munster and Trafton were all honorable mention Pac-10 All-Academic selections last season.

Cal, currently 26-25 overall and 9-12 in the Pac-10, competes in a three-games series against No. 19-ranked Arizona State this weekend in Tempe, Ariz.
