BERKELEY - The No. 25-ranked Cal baseball team pounded out 13 hits with three hits apiece from Tony Renda, Chadd Krist and Derek Campbell - and had seven innings of strong pitching from junior left-hander Justin Jones - in a 9-3 win over Lehigh Saturday (March 3) at Evans Diamond.The Golden Bears improved to 6-2 on the season, and the Mountain Hawks from Bethlehem, Pa. dropped to 2-3. The two teams will play a doubleheader Sunday beginning at 11 a.m. at Evans Diamond. Junior second baseman Renda went 3-for-5 with two doubles to improve his season average to .424 (14-for-33). Senior catcher Krist was 3-for-4 with a sacrifice fly and a two-run double in the seventh inning. His double was his fourth of the season and the 50th of his career, placing him tied for fifth (with Greg Zunino, 1978-81) on the school's all-time doubles list. Sophomore shortstop Campbell made several outstanding plays defensively and was 3-for-4 with two RBI, including his first collegiate home run in the second inning. Jones improved his record to 2-1 on the season by throwing 7.0 innings with four hits, no runs, no walks and three strikeouts. It was his 21st win, placing him tied for sixth (with Joe Gaggero, 1952-55; and Ted Settle, 1958-60) on the school's all-time wins list. The Bears also had a nice day from sophomore first baseman Andrew Knapp, who was 2-for-2 with an RBI double in the fourth inning. Senior right fielder Danny Oh added a bases loaded two-run single in Cal's four-run third inning. Junior college transfer (Diablo Valley College) Mike Reuvekamp had a pinch hit single and scored in his first at-bat as a Bear.
