A right-hander who was phenomenal in the early part of the 2008 season for the Bears...will again be a key to Cal's pitching staff, either as a starter or a closer...was impressive this past summer in the Cape Cod League for the Cotuit Kettleers, going 3-1 with a 3.38 ERA and two saves...pitched in a team-high 14 games with 33 strikeouts in 24.0 innings...throws in the high 80s to low 90s with a curveball, slider and change-up...transferred from Long Beach State prior to the 2008 season.
AS A SOPHOMORE (2008): Was 2-1 with a 6.63 ERA in 21 appearances...had 43 strikeouts in 38.0 innings...notched four strikeouts in 1.2 innings versus Long Beach State (two appearances) March 29-30...had four strikeouts in 2.0 innings at Santa Clara March 25...made two appearances at Washington State March 21-22, recording nine strikeouts in 4.2 innings...picked up the win March 21 versus the Cougars in relief (2.2 innings, three hits, no runs, one walks, career-high five strikeouts)...made two appearances against Loyola Marymount March 14-16 (4.1 innings, four hits, no runs, one walk, three strikeouts)...had four strikeouts in 1.2 innings at Minnesota March 8...won March 2 in relief at San Diego (4.1 innings, two hits, no runs, one walk, two strikeouts)...earned save Feb. 22 versus Kansas State (4.0 innings, no hits, three walks, five strikeouts).
AT LONG BEACH STATE (2007): As a true freshman was 1-1 with a 3.55 ERA in 14 appearances, striking out 15 batters in 12.2 innings.
HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL: At Woodcreek High School was a two-time all-league selection and a 2006 Puma Preseason All-American...batted .436 with 11 doubles and four home runs as a senior...on the mound was 2-3 with a 4.63, leading the league with 57 strikeouts in 39.1 innings...as a junior had 29 strikeouts in 22.2 innings...finished his high school career with a .388 average, striking out only four times in 100 at-bats...majoring in English...parents are Jim and Debra Wolford...born August 19, 1988 in Sacramento, Calif.
