Nov. 14, 2005

BERKELEY, Calif. - California senior Giliat Ghebray has earned an at-large bid to the 2005 NCAA Cross Country Championships Monday, Nov. 21 at the Wabash Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind. Indiana State serves as host of this year's event.

At the NCAA West Regional Nov. 12, Ghebray placed 15th on the 10K course in a time of 30:38.2 to lead all Bear runners. By crossing the finish line as one of the top four runners from teams which didn't qualify for the NCAA Championships, Ghebray received an at-large individual berth to nationals.

Ghebray becomes the first Cal men's runner to qualify for the cross country national championships since Girmay Guangul in 2000. Ghebray, who hails from Union City, Calif., has led the Bears in four events this year, including the team's last three competitions.
