Cal Riedy at NCAA's
TUCSON, Ariz.- The Unversity of California men's and women's cross country team competed in the NCAA West Regional Championship this weekend, and as usual, the women's team was Riedy for action. Actually, it was twice as Riedy.
Twin sisters Elissa and Lori Riedy were the top Bear runners, finishing eighth and 20th, respectively, in a field of 171. Elissa completed the 5,000 meter course in 17:35, followed less than a minute later by Lori at 18:19.30. For Elissa, it kept her streak of top ten finihes alive, as the junior from Fremont has finished in the top ten in each of the six races she has entered.
The effort helped the Bears to a ninth place finish in a field of 25 with 264 points. Stanford's women lead with 37 points.
For the men's 10,000 meters, Peter Gilmore continued his recent torid pace, finishing sixth (30:50.10) out of a 145 man field. The Bears finished eighth with 177 points. Stanford leads with just 50 points.
