DAVIS, Calif. - The California men's cross country team placed third overall and three members of the women's squad had impressive showings as the Bears competed in the Doc Adams Invitational at the Putah Creek Reserve in Davis, Calif. on Saturday morning.
Senior Matt Petersen, a Davis, Calif. native, led the way on the men's side with a time of 24:28 in the 8000-meter race to place sixth overall. The freshman five-some of Jared Hazlett, Ned Trim, Thomas Joyce, Andrew Bland and Juan David Garcia also competed. Hazlett placed 11th overall with a time of 25:18, while Trim and Joyce were close behind with times of 25:34 and 25:36 to place 17th and 20th, respectively. Bland finished with a time of 26:21 to place 36th and Garcia completed the race in a time of 26:25 to place 37th.
Three members of the women's squad raced on Saturday morning with Christine Bowlus leading the way with a mark of 21:50 in the 6000-meter race to place 10th overall. Juliana Green completed the course in 22:14 to place 17th and Christine Zavesky was close behind in a time of 22:54 to finish 34th.
Next up for several Bears is the NCAA West Regionals on Friday, Nov. 9 in Seattle, Wash.
