SACRAMENTO - For the second week in a row, the California women's cross country team took top honors as the Golden Bears captured the Hornet Jamboree in Saturday's race at Granite Park in Sacramento. The men's squad placed third overall in the event. The Golden Bear women, who also placed first at last week's season-opening USF Invitational, tied with Fresno State for first place with 41 points, ahead of third-place Sacramento State (78 points). It was the second time in the last three years the Cal women claimed top honors at the Hornet Jamboree, also taking home the crown in 2010. Sophomore Christine Bowlus paced the Golden Bear women, taking fourth overall individually. She finished the 5000 meter race in 17:49.2. Freshman Ashlyn Dadkhah placed sixth overall with a time of 17:53.4, while junior Juliana Green was the Bears' third top-10 finisher, placing 10th overall with a time of 17:59.3. The Cal men (88 points) finished behind first-place Sacramento State (23 points) and second-place Fresno State (63 points). Senior Renaud Poizat, who has raced in each of the Golden Bears' first two events this fall, led Cal with a second-place showing overall. He finished the four-mile race in 19:46.3. Poizat was edged out by Sacramento State's Reesey Byers (19:42.3) for first place. Freshman Matt Carpowich, who made his collegiate debut on Saturday morning, recorded a time of 19:54.2 to place fifth overall in the race. Freshman Thomas Joyce also made his collegiate debut in Saturday's meet, placing 16th overall with a time of 20:26.4.
The Bears will take next weekend off, before traveling to Charlottesville, Va. to compete in the Panorama Farms Invitational beginning at 6:30 a.m. (PT) on Sept. 22. The event will feature some of the top teams from around the nation. Men's Results
