A former standout for the Cal cross country and track & field teams, Mark Matusak serves as an volunteer assistant coach for the Golden Bears.
The 2005 Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year for cross country and a two-time second-team All-Pac-10 choice, Matusak also earned Pac-10 All-Academic honors three times. He helped Cal advance to the NCAA Championships twice, with the Bears placing 16th in 2007 and 22nd in 2008.
On the track, Matusak set a school record in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:39.59 at the NCAA West Preliminary meet in 2010. He went on to earn All-America honors with his eighth-place showing in the final.
During his senior indoor season in 2010, Matusak set a Cal indoor mark in the mile, running 5:58.36, and later captured the MPSF title in the 3000 meters. He was a key member of the Bears' distance medley relay the gained All-America recognition twice.
While at Loyola High School in Los Angeles, Matusak captured a bronze medal in the 1500 at the 2005 Pan American Junior Championships after winning the event at USA Junior Nationals. He was a two-time state champion in the 1600 meters, as well as a two-time winning of the state Division II cross country meet.
Matusak received his degree from Cal in psychology.
