Chris Coffee begins his eighth season as a volunteer assistant coach for California. Coffee draws on his experience as a student-athlete and coach to provide excellent guidance to athletes at Cal. He has helped in the development of distance runners at Cal, including several All-Americans.

Coffee competed on the Cal cross country and track and field teams until graduating in 2001 with a degree in architecture. As a senior, Coffee was the cross country team captain and a Pac-10 scorer in track and field. His specialty in track was the 3000-meter steeplechase where he held a collegiate PR of 9:02.31 at the Pac-10 Championships. While competing in 2002 as a post-collegiate athlete, Coffee lowered his steeplechase PR to 8:59.72.

When he is not on the track, Coffee works at Graff Architects in Oakland, specializing in the fine residential design.
