17 Bears on All-Pac-10 Academic Team

BERKELEY - California placed 17 Golden Bears on the Pac-10 men's and women's track and field All-Academic teams, Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen announced last week. Bears seniors Alex Beitashour and Kurt Seefeld earned spots on the men's second team, while sophomore teammate Francesca Weems is on the women's second team.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.

Beitashour, with a 3.57 GPA, majored in business administration, Seefeld (3.51) majored in psychology and Weems (3.70) is a mass communications major.

Bears who earned honorable mention conference academic honors include junior Craig Gallimore, senior Jonas Hallgrimsson, junior John Ludden, sophomore Jake Hanson, senior Kelechi Anyanwu, sophomore Kandi Bonty, sophomore Tifani Grimes, senior Carrie Johnson, redshirt freshman Mercedes Marchbanks, sophomore Lollie Onipede, sophomore Evelyn Smith, junior Cassandra Strickland, junior Brook Turner and senior Daisy Van Ravenswaay.
