BERKELEY - Sophomore Michael Coe broke the school record in the mile and set the fastest collegiate, U.S. and third-fastest time in the world this season with a time of 3:56.18 Saturday at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational, making him the Muscle Milk California Student-Athlete of the Week. Coe surpassed David Torrence's record time of 3:58.62 for the school record. Torrence took second in the race at 3:57.04. The previous NCAA-best time was 4:01.38 and the previous best U.S. time was 3:58.90.
