BERKELEY - Junior Ryan Young was named the Pac-10 Men's Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference today. Young earned the honor after his record-setting performance last weekend in the javelin at the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational. This is the first Pac-10 Track Athlete of the Week award for Cal in 2009.

Young set both the school and meet records last weekend, posting a record-setting mark of 250-10 (76.45m). Young's mark on Friday also currently ranks fourth in the NCAA this season. The previous school record in the javelin was 236-0, set by Paul Teinert in 2006. Young's previous personal best was 235-02, which he set last season and then-ranked second best in school history.

Cal heads to the Farm this Saturday for the annual Big Meet against Stanford. The Bears will host the Brutus Hamilton Invitational from April 24-25 at Edwards Stadium.
