BERKELEY - Mike Morrison, who captured the decathlon title at the Texas Relays last week, has been named the Pac-10 Field Athlete of the Week. Morrison totaled 7,921 points in his victory, a number surpassed by only two other decathletes in Cal history - both NCAA champions. Chris Huffins scored 8,007 points in 1993, while Bevan Hart accumulated 8,002 points in 2000. Morrison was the 2010 NCAA runner-up and is the top returning decathlete in the country. At the Texas Relays, Morrison grabbed the lead at the end of the first day and did not relinquish his edge through the final five events. In the process, he set or tied four personal bests - 100 meters, 110-meter hurdles, high jump and javelin. Earlier this season, Morrison won his second MSPF indoor heptathlon and placed fifth in the seven-event competition at the NCAA indoor meet with a school-record 5,872 points.
