INDIANAPOLIS - California junior and NCAA champion Alysia Johnson reached the final of the women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:02.87 to take third place in Friday's semifinal at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at IU Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium at IUPUI. Johnson, the 2007 NCAA indoor and outdoor champion in the 800, will run in the 800 final on Sunday.
Cal sophomore Mackenzie Pierce did not complete the 800 semifinal.
In the final of the women's discus throw, sophomore Emilee Strot collected Cal's best mark with a 164-10 (50.25 meters) to finish 15th. Senior teammate Kelechi Anyanwu, the 2007 NCAA outdoor champion in the discus, was 16th on Friday with a toss of 163-03 (49.75).
Bears senior Kevin Davis ran a lifetime-best 8:38.02 to take 11th in today's semifinal and reach Sunday's final of the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. His time ranks him second on Cal's all-time list, surpassing his previous personal record of 8:40.52.
Cal junior David Torrence ran a 3:40.80 to take 13th place in the men's 1,500-meter run semifinal round but did not advance to the Sunday final. Only the top 12 qualified for the final.
In the final of the men's 5,000-meter run, Cal senior Giliat Ghebray did not finish, while former Golden Bears star Bolota Asmerom, Cal's record holder in the 5,000, took sixth place in 13:38.26. Travis Nutter, another former Bears star, was fourth in the men's hammer final with a throw of 234-09 (71.56).

On Saturday, Cal sophomore Inika McPherson will compete in the women's high jump final at 3:10 p.m. ET, Bears senior Carrie Johnson will take part in the women's hammer throw final at 3:20 p.m. ET and Cal junior Thomas Mack will perform in the men's 110-meter hurdles first round at 4:50 p.m.
