Jonas Hallgrimsson returns to Cal as a volunteer assistant coach, specializing in the javelin, after competing for the Golden Bears for three seasons.
In the 2007 season, he PRed in the 200 meters at the Jim Click Shootout (24.70). At the Pac-10 Championships, he notched a 45-8.50 (13.03m) in the triple jump. In indoors last season, he PRed in the pole vault at the Roger Cox Multis (4.50, 14-9). In 2006, he held Cal's top marks in the heptathlon (5,429 points, indoors) long jump (23-04.00, 7.11 meters) and triple jump (47-01.00, 14.35, indoors). He also posted his third-best marks in the high jump (6-06.75, 2 meters, indoors), the javelin (216-05, 65.96) and his second-best score in the decathlon (6,900). His top heptathlon mark gave him third place at the MPSF Indoor Championships and qualified him for the NCAA Indoor Championships, at which he took 15th place.
During his junior campaign in outdoors, Hallgrimsson was an NCAA qualifier in the javelin. He posted Cal's best mark of the season, and an NCAA qualifying mark, in the decathalon (7,002/Pac-10 Multis). Hallgrimsson recorded a mark of 52.62 in the 400 meters at the Pac-10 Multis, and a best in the 1500 meters (4:39.61/Pac-10 Multis), seventh-best in the 110 meters hurdles (15.59/Pac-10 Multis) and third-best in the pole vault (14-09/MPSF Championship - Heptathlon). He notched the team's third-best mark in the javelin (213-06/Pac-10 Championships). His javelin marks from the Pac-10 Championships ranked him sixth all-time at Cal.
In his first year in Berkeley, he redshirted the outdoor season, after posting Cal's third-best javelin mark of the season (170-07), fourth-best long jump (22-08) and fifth-best discus mark (115-10) during indoors. Also during indoors, he posted Cal's best marks in the heptathlon (5,437, MPSF Championships,) and the long jump (23-00.5, as part of the heptathlon, MPSF Championships). He had Cal's third-best mark in the pole vault (14-09, as part of the heptathlon, MPSF Championships) and third-best time in the 60-meter high hurdles (8.52, as part of the heptathlon, MPSF Championships).
During his freshman season at USC, scored 6,855 points at the Occidental meet...Pac-10 qualifier in decathlon and triple jump.
Hallgrimsson, currently working on his master's in education, attended Reykjavir Junior College in Reykjavir, Iceland and was a member of Iceland's national team for three years. He was also the 1998 Iceland Junior Track & Field athlete of the Year.
