Biography

Spring 2017: Finished her senior season with a 22-13 singles record, including 5-1 on court two, 10-5 on court three and 7-1 in Pac-12 matches, and a 19-12 doubles record…was ranked 124th in the last Oracle/ITA singles poll…completed her Cal career with all-time records of 106-41 in singles and 102-40 in doubles…won her last singles and doubles matches at the Hellman Tennis Complex in Cal’s 4-0, NCAA round of 32 win over LSU…ranked 123rd in singles at the time, Starr upset LSU’s 105th-ranked Ryann Lewis, 6-3, 6-2…also paired with Maria Smith to beat the Tigers’ Skylar Holloway and Jessica Golovin, 6-4, at court-three doubles…partnered with Stephane Lin to defeat Jessica Failla and Sydney Van Alphen, 6-2, at court-three doubles in Cal’s 4-3 win over USC in the Pac-12 semifinals and then upset the 122nd-ranked Zoë Katz, 6-2, 7-6, at court-three singles…also upset the then-80th-ranked Katz, 6-2, 6-0, in Cal’s 6-1 win over USC in the regular season on Feb. 25…notched another upset in a 6-3, 6-3 win over Arizona State’s 70th-ranked Kelley Anderson on March 18 and a big upset of No. 53 Taylor Davidson, 6-4, 6-4, in Cal’s 4-3 Big Slam loss to Stanford on April 22 at Hellman.

Fall 2016: Entered the year ranked No. 62 in the country…reached the semifinals of the Cal Nike Fall Invitational, falling to Arizona State’s 87th-ranked Kassidy Jump, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4…competed at the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships, posting two wins over Wichita State’s 74th-ranked Gabrielle Porubin, 6-4, 6-1, and over TCU’s 57th-ranked Donika Bashota, 6-4, 6-2…competed at the Oracle ITA Masters, falling to Duke’s Meible Chi, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, in the singles round of 16…reached the singles round of 32 at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships...partnering with Maegan Manasse, the pair entered the fall ranked No. 3 in the country…the two reached the semifinals at regionals, falling to the other Cal duo of Olivia Hauger and Karla Popovic, 6-1, 5-7, 10-8…Starr and Manasse received an at-large selection into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships, falling in the round of 16 to Andie Daniell and Erin Routliffe of Alabama, 7-5, 6-4.

Spring 2016: Capped off a strong junior season with an appearance in the NCAA Doubles Championship final, with  the fourth-seeded Starr and Maegan Manasse falling to Florida’s third-seeded Brooke Austin and Kourtney Keegan, 6-2, 6-0…the two Bears upset the top-seeded and second-ranked North Carolina team of Haley Carter and Whitney Kay, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(7), in the NCAA semifinals…Starr earned All-America honors in doubles for the second consecutive year…Starr also earned the ITA Northwest Regional Player to Watch accolade…Starr and Manasse claimed the Pac-12 Doubles Team of the Year award, with Starr also earning All-Pac-12 Second-Team status…seeded No. 1 and ranked No. 2, Starr and Manasse were upset in the Pac-12 doubles round of 16 by Utah’s 87th-ranked Margo Pletcher/Brianna Turley, 6-2… Starr and Manasse won twice in doubles during Cal’s run to its first ITA National Team Indoor Championship…the pair won in the opening round against Wisconsin and then clinched the doubles point in the 4-1 quarterfinal win over Virginia with a 6-2 victory over Danielle Collins and Meghan Kelly on court one… earned her second career Pac-12 Player of the Week honor on Feb. 8, for her two doubles victories and three singles wins (6-1, 6-1 over Wisconsin’s Maria Avgerinos; 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 over Virginia’s Victoria Olivarez; and 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 over Ohio State’s Miho Kowase) that helped Cal reach the final at national indoors…Starr and Manasse had a final ITA ranking of fourth and posted a 23-11 doubles record this season…in singles, Starr notched a 27-7 record for the season and finished the year with a No. 88 ITA ranking…she won twice at No. 4 singles during Cal’s run to the semifinals of the NCAA team tournament, beating Felicity Maltby, 6-4, 6-2, in a 4-0 win over Texas Tech in the round of 16 and defeating Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai, 6-0, 6-3, in a 4-2 comeback win over Pepperdine in the quarterfinals.
 
Fall 2015: Captured the doubles crown with Manasse at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, beating UNC’s 15th-ranked Carter/Kay, 6-1, 6-4, in the final…Starr and Manasse were ranked third and seeded second at the All-American…Starr also reached the All-American singles round of 16…reached the doubles semifinals with Manasse in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships…. paired with Manasse to take the top-flight doubles title at the Cal Nike Fall Invitational, beating Arizona State’s Ebony Panoho and Alexandra Osborne, 8-1, in the final…reached the singles quarterfinals of the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships and of the top flight of the Cal Nike Fall Invitational.

Spring 2015: Earned her first All-America honor after being seeded with Maegan Manasse in the NCAA Doubles Championship at Nos. 5-8…also played in the NCAA Singles Championship, after helping lead the Bears to the round of 16 in the NCAA team tournament…Starr and Manasse, ranked seventh entering the NCAA doubles tournament, reached the round of 16 before falling to Stanford’s 10th-ranked Caroline Doyle/Ellen Tsay, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4…the Bears – who finished with a 33-10 record – beat Notre Dame’s 29th-ranked Quinn Gleason and Monica Robinson in the round of 32, 6-2, 6-1…Starr was 37-10 overall in doubles in 2014-15…in the Pac-12 doubles tournament, Manasse and Starr won twice to reach the semifinals but had to withdraw due to injury…one of the Bears’ biggest wins during the regular season came in Cal’s 4-3 victory at UCLA on March 20, when Starr and Manasse – then ranked fifth – upset the third-ranked pair of Catherine Harrison/Kyle McPhillips, 8-4, to clinch the doubles point…in singles, lost to Michigan’s 31st-ranked Ronit Yurovsky in the NCAA round of 64, 1-6, 7-5, 6-2…her 36-9 singles record this season included a 10-0 dual-match record, a record of 9-0 at court two, a 7-3 court-three record and a 5-1 court-four record…has career records of 57-21 (singles) and 60-17 (doubles)…Starr and Stephane Lin (2-0) were the only Bears unbeaten in singles in Pac-12 dual-match play...claimed her first Pac-12 Player of the Week accolade.

Fall 2014: Posted an 8-3 singles record in the fall, in which she reached the round of 16 in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, the round of 64 in the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships and the top-flight final of the Cal Nike Fall Invitational…Starr lost to teammate Maegan Manasse in Bears’ fall tournament, 6-4, 6-4…was 11-3 in doubles, pairing with Manasse each time…the duo earned a No. 11 ITA ranking in the fall…the pair won the top-flight title in the Cal Fall Nike Invitational, beating teammates Zsofi Susanyi and Lynn Chi, 8-4, in the final, fell in the final of the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships to Susanyi and Klara Fabikova, 6-1, 6-4, reached the round of 16 in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, and won the consolation crown at indoors, beating Michigan’s second-seeded Emina Bektas/Alexandria Najarian.

Spring 2014: Earned All-Pac-12 first-team honors and a final ITA singles ranking of 35th after posting a 21-12 singles record…played No. 1 singles down the stretch, collected a 6-6 record…clinched Cal’s NCAA first-round match against Fairleigh Dickinson with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ksenija Tihomirova in Berkeley…reached the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 singles tournament, falling to UCLA’s Jennifer Brady, 7-5, 6-3…finished with a 23-7 doubles record including a 12-1 record with Maegan Manasse…the Starr/Manasse pair claimed Cal’s best doubles ranking – No. 33 – in the final ITA poll… the duo won Cal’s last doubles match of the season, an 8-3 victory over No. 50 Taylor Davidson/Ellen Tsay in the Bears’ NCAA round of 16 loss to Stanford in Atlanta.

Fall 2013: Came on strong midway through the season, as did fellow freshman Maegan Manasse…Starr beat Manasse, 6-1, 6-2, for the singles title at the fall-ending ASU Thunderbird Invitational…Starr defeated fifth-ranked teammate Anett Schutting, 7-5,6-3, in the quarterfinals in Tempe, Ariz….also reached the quarters of the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships, with a win over Stanford’s eighth-ranked Krista Hardebeck, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4, in the round of 16...posted a singles record of 8-1 and a doubles record of 6-1…in doubles, she paired with Zsofi Susanyi to advance to the semifinals of the regional and partnered with Kelly Chui to play in the round-robin event at the ASU tournament.
