STANFORD – A busy, grueling stretch of the schedule presented the No. 18 Cal beach volleyball team with some challenges in recent weeks.

During a 24-hour stretch Friday and Saturday, the Bears met every challenge and turned them into success.

Cal capped off a perfect weekend of competition Saturday by winning a pair of duals Saturday at the Stanford Tournament, defeating Boise State 3-2 and Oregon 4-1. The Bears began the weekend by defeating Washington on Friday in their final home dual of the season at the Clark Kerr Sand Courts.

"What was great is that our three opponents this weekend were relatively similar in our game plan against them," Cal coach Meagan Schmitt said. "We got to improve and perfect our game plan as we played each team."

The Bears (13-7) notched victories on the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 court against the Broncos to clinch the dual early. Cal's No. 3 pair of junior Bryce Bark and freshman Camille Stepanof secured the team victory with an 18-21, 21-18, 15-11 win over Boise State's Sierra Nobley and Sabryn Roberts.

The Bears' No. 4 all-freshmen pair of Nicole Anderson and Iya Lindahl and No. 5 pair of junior Teya Neff and freshman Bridget Gustafson each posted easy, straight-set victories in both duals Saturday. The pairs are tied for a team-best 15-6 record this season.

"I can't emphasize to them enough how amazing it is to go into our last round having already clinched the match," Schmitt said. "They have the power to take all the pressure of the 1s and 2s and allow us to battle and get better as pairs."

The Bears take to the road next week to play duals in Arizona against New Mexico and No. 19 Arizona State on Friday and No. 8 Arizona on Saturday.
