The remaining nine selections received honorable mention notice: Academic performance has been a hallmark for the Cal women's swimming & diving program. For the 2015-16 academic year, the squad won the Newmark Award for having the highest GPA among all 30 of Cal's intercollegiate athletic teams – 3.376. The Bears were also named a CSCAA Scholar All-America team for their academic performance during the fall 2016 semester, and swimmers and divers have been recognized with individual CSCAA Scholar All-American honors 52 times over the past five years.

In the pool, Cal earned its ninth consecutive national top 3 finish by placing at the runner-up at the 2017 NCAA Championships earlier this month. Baker won three individual events – 100 and 200 backstroke, 200 individual medley – and was named the CSCAA Swimmer of the Year, while Osman captured the 100 butterfly and the Bears claimed titles in the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA, participate in at least half of her team's scheduled regular-season events and have been enrolled at the school for at least two full semesters.
