Â
Opening Statement…
"I thought it was a hard-fought game that resulted in a really emotional locker room. Tough one for us. They did a better job scoring the ball and attacking the rim in the second half. We broke down defensively in the second half quite a few times -- I think they had two open threes that really came from breakdowns in our defensive assignments. Key turnovers for us really changed the game."
Â
On Oregon's press…
"I think Ivan and Charlie turned the ball over, but I don't know if that was really a factor, they just turned the heat up. We were able to get the ball minus two turnovers, so we really needed to just get down and attack the rim more. I don't think their press was the issue, I think it was more our breakdown especially in the half court, ball screen issues and missing shots."
Â
On impact of this game on tournament…
"Not to be sarcastic, but I'm not a part of that committee, and I think we're an NCAA team but we still have work to do. I told our guys to take care of the games ahead of us, even though this was a big game and we fell short. We need to turn our focus to the game on Friday."
Â
On the last play…
"We had what we consider five perimeter guys, including Ivan, so if they ran inside ball screen action, we'd switch on those plays. We didn't want them to catch the ball ahead of us, and they did, and I think Domingo wanted to deny Brooks the ball as much as possible. We thought Brooks might take the shot, even though they had their point guard out there—that's a shot he takes and normally makes, only tough because of the situation he was in."
Â
On hesitant offensive possessions toward the end of that game …
"When the time gets low there, we're running set plays so it's just a little different than just the flow of the game where things happen and we were trying to do specific things, so we were hesitant."
Â
On the Oregon pressure towards the end of the game…
"I think it wasted a few of our timeouts…not sure if we had any turnovers in it. I wouldn't say it affected us hugely. We knew they were going to press us from last game so I thought we handled it pretty well. I thought we could have attacked it a little bit more, but for the most part I thought we did alright."
Â
On what Coach Cuonzo Martin said to the team postgame…
"He just said it was a tough loss. We're going to go through and look at the film tomorrow and fix our mistakes."
Â
Â
On how hard it was to lose such a close game…
"I mean, first of all you have to tip your hat to Oregon. They made good plays down the stretch and we didn't. Brooks hit tough shots. Those last two shots he hit were tough, contested shots and you can't be upset with that. It was just the lead up to that, with being up by 10 with three to go, we can't squander that lead, and that really messed us up."
Â
On what this win could have meant to the season…
"If we would have won it would have been a signature win for us. That's what we've been looking for. Now that we lost, we have to put it behind us and move onto the next three games, finish off conference and take it one game at a time."
Â
On what has contributed to last three loses and how to fix that…
"We need to take care of the ball. We can't have turnovers and we have to get stops. I think those are the two main things."
Â
Oregon Head Coach Dana Altman
Â
On the game overall…
"We gave their best two three-point shooters open looks, went 5-of-5 from three. I was disappointed at half time. I liked how the pace of the game changed. Points off of turnovers were definitely the difference in the game going 19 and six. I think increasing the pace helped a lot and took them out of their rhythm."
Â
On Dillon Brooks' performance…
"Dillon was able to just push the ace and took the ball, so maybe credit him a steal. He just made a play and just rose up and hit the shot. He wanted it and hit it. You have to have the ability to hit it and the four fouls weren't good. We were very fortunate for Chris Boucher and just made some plays down the stretch."
Â
On first-half mentality…
"Everyone was upset. We didn't hit our shots -- kind of thought we were just standing around and not really getting set. I didn't recognize our team -- no energy, 0-7 from three and shot 29 percent and gave them a chance in the first half and gave up five threes. We weren't aggressive, down big on the boards and just had to realize it was a long game and we couldn't exchange baskets."
