With fall final exams complete and the holiday season just ahead, Cal closes out the year hosting San Jose State in a dual meet at noon Wednesday at Spieker Aquatics Center. The Golden Bears and Spartans are meeting for the third year in a row. Last year, Cal came away with a 178-113 victory.
The meet serves as Cal's final competition until Pac-12 duals return in January. The Bears host their final home events of the season when Arizona State and Arizona visit Jan. 19-20. Trips to USC Jan. 26, UCLA Jan. 27 and Stanford Feb. 10 round out the calendar before the championship season gets underway with the Pac-12 and NCAA meets.

In the Cal's most recent outing, the Bears traveled to Athens, Ga., for the Georgia Fall Invitational, and they came home with 10 event victories and eight swims under the NCAA "A" qualifying standard. Sophomore
Abbey Weitzeil posted the top time in the country in winning the 50 free in 21.44, while her first-place time of 46.95 in the 100 free ranks No. 2 in Cal history. Other individuals to reach the top of the podium were freshman
Sarah Darcel in the 400 IM (4:06.58), senior
Noemie Thomas in both the 100 fly (50.77) and 200 fly (1:54.12), and junior
Amy Bilquist in the 200 back (1:50.48). In addition, four Golden Bear relays touched the wall in first - 200 free relay (1:27.10), 400 medley relay (3:30.45), 200 medley relay (1:35.04) and 400 free relay (3:10.95).

Entering this week, the Bears sport 20 swims that rank among the NCAA's top 16, including five that are best in the nation.
Abbey Weitzeil is first in the 50 free (21.44), while junior
Kathleen Baker heads the list in both the 100 back (50.62) and 200 IM (1:53.24). Cal's 200 free relay (1:27.10) and 400 free relay (3:10.95) also rate No. 1. In addition, others within the top 10 include Weitzeil second in the 100 free (46.95),
Amy Bilquist second in the 200 back (1:50.48) and
Noemie Thomas third in the 100 fly (50.77)
• BEARS MAKING A DENT ON SCHOOL'S ALL-TIME TOP 10 LIST
Based on results so far this season, five individuals and three relays have made an impact on Cal's all-time top 10 list.
Abbey Weitzeil's 46.95 rates second in the 100 free and stands as the fastest by a Bear in a 100 free race (Missy Franklin's 46.66 school record came leading off a relay). All of the other spots belong to freshmen.
Ali Harrison is now seventh in the 100 breast (1:00.54) and fifth in the 200 breast (2:10.92), while
Sarah Darcel is ninth in the 200 IM (1:56.59) and fourth in the 400 IM (4:06.58). In diving,
Briana Thai comes in third on 1-meter (289.75), eight on 3-meter (3:00.10) and third on platform (2:56.60), with
Kathleen Navas seventh on platform (239.60). Cal's relays in the top 10 are the 200 free relay (8th, 1:27.10), 400 free relay (5th, 3:10.95) and 200 medley relay (4th, 1:35.04).
