BERKELEY – A star-filled swimming showdown between a team of Pac-12 swimmers and members of Team USA will have a distinct Cal influence when it comes to action on the men's side as 11 Golden Bears are set to compete in the USA College Challenge on Oct. 21-22 in Los Angeles.

Cal head coach David Durden will also be on deck as he and Stanford head coach Ted Knapp will lead a Pac-12 men's squad that features seven Golden Bear undergrads, the most of any school on either the men's or women's side. Seniors Connor Hoppe, Matthew Josa and Justin Lynch, junior Andrew Seliskar, sophomores Michael Jensen and Zheng Wen Quah and freshman Sean Grieshop will represent the Bears as part of a 24-man Pac-12 team.

The six returning Bear standouts helped lead Cal to a second-place finish at the 2017 NCAA Championships, the eighth year in a row in which the Bears have finished in the top two nationally. They are joined by Grieshop, who competed for Team USA at the 2017 World University Games and recently made his Cal debut at the King of the Pool meet at Cal Poly.

Standing across from them will be four familiar faces that have plenty of experience representing Team USA. Ryan Murphy, Jacob Pebley, Josh Prenot and Tom Shields, four Cal Olympians that competed for their country at the 2016 Rio games and helped account for five medals, will play a major role for the 15-man national team.

The two-day meet will be televised by Pac-12 Networks and streamed live on Pac-12.com with competition scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Oct. 21 and 11 a.m. on Oct. 22. Each athlete may enter up to six races, including relays, and a running score will be kept using a dual meet format. With 613 total points up for grabs, the first team to 306.5 will be crowned the winner.
