Cal-Arizona Postgame Notes

  • Cal is now 8-6 all-time in overtime. The most recent overtime game before tonight was a 52-49 double overtime win against Oregon on Oct. 21, 2016.  
  • Arizona has won the last four meetings in the series by a combined total of 11 points. The last time Cal beat Arizona was a 24-16 win in 2009 at Cal.
  • Patrick Laird notched a career-high 28 carries for 130 yards rushing and two touchdowns on the ground while also equaling his career high for the fourth with five catches. The rushing touchdowns were his fifth and sixth TDs this season and the sixth and seventh of his career.
  • Ross Bowers rushed for his second touchdown this season in the third quarter and his second in as many games. He completed a career-high29-of-49 passes for 301 yards with two touchdown throws, two interceptions and five rushes for 11 yards including the rushing score.
  • Matt Anderson now boasts 280 career points after making a career-long 52-yard field goal and five extra-points tonight for a total of eight points in the contest. He passed Duke Morrison for second all-time in career points. Doug Brien is first with 288.  
  • Ashtyn Davis recorded his first career interception in the fourth quarter and notched a career-best 44-yard kick return in the third.  
  • Malik McMorris hauled in his second career receiving touchdown, first this season, on an eight-yard reception from Ross Bowers in the third quarter. It was also his third career touchdown overall at Cal. McMorris also caught two passes in a game for the second time in his career.
  • Vic Wharton III registered a career-high eight receptions for a game-high 96 yards.
  • Kanawai Noa recorded his second career touchdown in the first overtime.
  • Four Cal defenders notched career highs in tackles – Jordan Kunaszyk (14), Gerran Brown (10), Cameron Goode (9) and Chris Palmer (3). Kunaszyk and Goode also secured 2.0 tackles for loss, a career-high for Goode.
  • Tevin Paul notched his first career pass breakup.
  • Four Cal scoring drives were at least 11 plays and at least 56 yards length while a fifth was 15 plays and 75 yards before ending in an interception in the Arizona end zone.
  • Cal had team season highs in points (44), touchdowns (5, ties season high), extra points (5, ties season high), extra-point attempts (5, ties season high), first downs (31), first downs rushing (9, shares season-high), first downs passing (17), first downs by penalty (5), rushing attempts (47), pass completions (29), total plays (96), total yards (473), third-down conversions (13-19), time of possession (35:00) and time of play margin (+10:00).
