NEW ORLEANS --- The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recently announced its NCAA Division I All-Academic individual & team awards for the 2015-16 campaign.

Five men and three women made up the Golden Bear individual choices: freshmen Tyler Brendel and Garrett Corcoran, juniors Thomas Joyce and Josh Lewis, and senior Sullivan Parker on the men's side; and freshman Rebecca Croft, senior Sydney Gray and sophomore Bethan Knights on the women's side. On the team side, women's track and field was honored after posting a cumulative GPA of 3.08.

Cal's representatives on each list were part of the nearly 1,500 individual and 220 women's teams recognized across Division I.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:

  • For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
  • For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
Team-wise, programs that performed well at this year's national championships and earned at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA were eligible for Scholar Team and/or All-Academic team status.
