Cal-Alcorn State Postgame Quotes

California Head Coach Cuonzo Martin

On not having Jabari and Grant and how it influences 3-point selection

"It didn't affect us as much tonight. I thought it would be an issue, having the guys stretch the defense. But I thought we did a great job getting the ball to Ivan, really attacking in transition, and really probing the defense. I thought we had a great team effort offensively, playing with good flow."

On Ivan's game improving every time he's out there

"Well you know, really he's playing well, but I think he was a lot better before he was injured because he put in a lot of work and he was shooting the three ball in the summertime. I think he's getting back into that, once he can continue to get his legs back underneath him. He was doing a lot of different things, handling the ball, shooting the three, making plays, but we still have an offensive package with him coming off of the ball. So I think he's, I would say, 80-85 percent from a conditioning standpoint and he continues to get better."

On having multiple guards on the court at the same time

"Well it's no different than Tyrone and Sam. Having two guards out there to hound the ball, make plays and make decisions. It's always good to have multiple ball handlers out there, and I think when Sam's aggressive offensively, we're a better offensive team. Sam wants to get assists which is great but we have to be willing to score, and to really kind of read the defense and make plays."

On importance of having Grant back for playing Princeton

"It will be godo because obviously he can make shots. He understands them. He played against them for three years, and from a scouting report standpoint, with personnel he can really identify certain guys. It's one thing to watch it on film, but to have a guy that can have insight to really how guys play can help you."

 So. Guard Don Coleman

On Grant Mullins missing from lineup
"We knew Grant wasn't going to play in this game a couple practices ago, but that doesn't change anything because we all always stay ready, never knowing when our number is going to be called."

On his performance
"Sometimes it's hard to maintain a flow, but you just have to keep playing and understand that there is going to be ups and downs. I just try to stay positive and keep playing hard."

On the win
"It gives a lot of confidence to leave for a road trip with a win. Plus, our walk-ons got minutes today and that gives them motivation and confidence to continue to practice and play hard. I think the big win has given us a ton of confidence. Next man up – everybody practices, everybody should be ready to play in a game."

Sr. Guard Roger Moute a Bidias

On consistently scoring 12 points
"I am a lot more confident with it (three-point shot), especially because I have been working on it a lot. I am happy with the way things are going, but I'm hoping that I can make more shots and shoot at a better percentage, but I'm doing great right now and I hope to keep it up."

On Ivan's recent performance
"It is a lot easier for us (to score). When I'm out on the wing, I just dump it down to Ivan and he either gets a bucket, goes to the foul line, or gets doubled and still gets a shot up. He makes the offense easier for us, and as much as we keep feeding him, I think we'll be alright."

On today's big lead
"It is very important for us as a team to grow, and to keep pushing even with a big lead in the second half. We have been coming back in the second half a little slower, and we let teams get back into the game. As we grow as a team, we will continue to keep working on this, because when it gets back into the Pac-12 play, teams are great and don't need any extra confidence."

Alcorn State Head Coach Montez Robinson

On biggest takeaway from game
"We fought hard. We've to to have more consistency. When it's not consistent, the team starts to get on runs and you cannot get away from those runs. I thought we dug ourselves a little hole, but that's a good basketball team. You have a potential lottery pick on that team and he played like one today."

On defending Ivan Rabb
"He was a huge part of it. He had about eight offensive points on the offensive glass where our guys just didn't box out. We told them he was long and tall and he'd just tip it over. He made shots, I guess he had been working on his weakness, stepping off the post and making some of those jump shots and different things like that. He really showed that he had been working on things coming off his freshman year towards his sophomore year as he made some tough shots. Give him credit and the coaching staff credit."

On how team can improve
"We just gotta be consistent. We gotta guard, really execute the scouting report and do those things. Gotta run our offense a little bit better and play with a little more pace and tempo. I think we got stagnant at times, but for the most part, it was pretty good."
