BERKELEY – California head coach Peter Wright announced the signing of five new Golden Bears to National Letters of Intent to bolster his already talented team on Monday. As part of one of the top recruiting classes in the nation, Jacob Brumm, Paul Barretto, Jackson Suh, Ben Draper and Jack Molloy will join Cal men's tennis in the fall of 2017.

"I'm excited to have a great signing class for men's tennis," Wright said. "Everyone on the team and the coaching staff welcome Jacob, Paul, Jackson, Ben and Jack to the Cal tennis family."

The incoming Bears join a program that in the spring of 2016 reached the final four of the NCAA team tournament, produced this season's doubles champions (Filip Bergevi and Florian Lakat) from the Saint Francis Health System All-American Championships as well as this year's ITA Northwest Regional singles champ (Andre Goransson), and most recently garnered NCAA recognition for its 100-percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR) for the 2006-09 cohort.

Brumm, from Rancho Sante Fe, California, ranks 11th in the nation and fourth in California on TennisRecruiting.net's 2017 College Recruiting Lists, with a previous national high of seventh. On the court, the USTA has ranked him in the top three in the nation in all age groups from boys' 12-18.

He captured the boys' 18 singles title at the USTA National Selection Tournament last May at Stanford. In August, the Torrey Pines High School product reached the singles round of 16 at the USTA National Boys' 18s & 16s Championships, and in July he also advanced to the singles quarterfinals of the USTA Boys' 18-16 National Clay Court Championships. Brumm has also competed in the Junior U.S. Open.

"Jacob Brumm continues to be one of the top players in the country," Wright said. "His aggressive groundstrokes complement his incredibly physical game style."

"I chose Cal because it's one of the best universities in the world in a really unique and great city," Brumm said. "I'm very excited to play for coaches Wright and (associate head coach Tyler) Browne, as there are really big things ahead for this program."

Barretto hails from one of the San Francisco Bay Area's top tennis families, as the Tiburon product is the younger brother of Cal freshman Nic Barretto and University of San Francisco junior Marco Barretto. Paul Barretto ranks 26th on the TennisRecruiting.net national list and eighth on the California list. In October, he advanced to the singles quarterfinals of the Pan American ITF Championships. At last April's Easter Bowl Championship in Indian Wells, California, Paul partnered with Nic to reach the doubles round of 16, while Paul also advanced to the singles round of 32. He was also the NorCal 18s sectional winner for two years.

"Paul Barretto has been successful on both the domestic and international junior tours," Wright said. "He's a powerful counterpuncher who has great speed and vision on the court."

"I am extremely excited to be a part of the Golden Bear family," Paul Barretto said. "It is a dream come true for me because I will be joining a great group of players, coaches, friends and family. I can very confidently say that Cal is the best place for my personality and my game. Go Bears!"

Suh is a native of Bellevue, Washington, with TennisRecruiting.net pegging him as the No. 2 recruit out of the Evergreen state and as the 44th top recruit overall. The Issaquah High School product won the Washington state high school championship as a sophomore and is a three-time Pacific Northwest Sectionals champion. More recently, he paired with Cal freshman Bjorn Hoffmann in the 2016 USTA Boys' 18s & 16s National Tournament, with the duo reaching the round of 32.

"Jackson Suh has been the No. 1 player in the Pacific Northwest," Wright said. "His great work ethic combined with his infectiously positive attitude make him a great addition to the team."

"I knew Cal was the right school for me as soon as I first visited," Suh said. "Cal's athletics, academics and location were exactly what I was looking for. Coach Peter and coach Tyler have created a great program that I can't wait to be a part of. I'm super pumped to get down there and play for my school, coaches, and teammates."

Molloy and Draper both hail from Reed's School in Cobham in the United Kingdom and are the first international student-athletes to join Cal as freshmen since seniors Bergevi and Goransson did four years ago.

"Ben Draper and Jack Molloy come to us from the same high school in London that produced Tim Henman," Wright said. "They are best friends and two of the top juniors in England, with both having played in the Wimbledon juniors."

The pair has won three ITF doubles titles and competed together in the main draw of doubles in the Junior Championships at Wimbledon in July. Draper – who has a career-high ITF ranking of 149 – also advanced to the junior singles round of 32 at Wimbledon. In June, Draper won a notable championship when he captured the Tier 2 Aegon British Tour Title.

"I'm really excited to become a Bear in August," Draper said. "I'm looking forward to working with Peter, Tyler and the rest of the talented Cal team. I hope to play my part in bringing further success to the Golden Bears during the course of the next four years!"

Molloy, who has represented Great Britain in the under-14 and 16 age groups, is currently ranked 128th as a junior by the ITF.

"I chose Cal because it's a fantastic school with a great tennis program, and I really like the coaches," Molloy said. "It'll be the perfect place to improve my game over the next four years, and I'm looking forward to getting started!"
