Tod Bannister joined the Cal Athletics Department in October 2007 and assumed the duties as Executive Director of the Bear Backers. Previously he spent the last year as Assistant Athletics Director of External Affairs at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. While at Pacific he managed the PTAA, the chief fund raising arm of Pacific athletics. He was responsible for negotiating contracts and trade outs that help augment the operating budget of the department. Bannister also oversaw marketing and ticketing operations.

Bannister had previously worked at Pacific's School of Engineering and Computer Science as an Assistant Professor and Director of the Co-op Program. While there his primary duties included the placement of co-op and internship students in engineering related positions throughout the world. He also held a faculty position and taught a course that helped prepare students for their work world experience. He was instrumental in developing marketing materials that were used to recruit new industry partners that were seeking to hire engineering and computer science students.

Bannister spent 6 years as an assistant basketball coach at the University of the Pacific with both the Men's and Women's programs. He spent 4 years as an assistant under current Pacific coach Bob Thomason. After his coaching days he served as the color analyst for the Pacific Tigers men's basketball broadcasts and spent 1 year as co-host of the Cal Bear Basketball post game show.
