Free Cal Athletic Events on Saturday For Cal Day

BERKELEY - This Saturday is Cal Day on the University of California campus, an open house for fans, students, neighbors and visitors to come check out everything the UC campus has to offer. Some of the main highlights of Cal Day will be free athletic events - to go along with free parking throughout campus, so fans are encouraged to arrive early.

California football fans will have the opportunity to get a sneak-peek at the 2008 Golden Bears at Memorial Stadium as Peterson Tractor presents a free open practice - the only open-to-the-public practice of the spring season for Cal. The practice is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.

In addition to the Golden Bears being in action, highlights include the first availability of the 2008 Official Gameday Football Shirt, free food for the first 500 fans (starting at 11 a.m.) and a surplus equipment sale which begins at 9 a.m. in the Prospect Avenue parking lot located on the south end of the stadium. The surplus sale will include official Cal clothing from Golden Bear varsity sports teams, official Cal jerseys, Nike shoes and duffel bags. A limited amount of football equipment, such as kicking nets and ball bags, will be also available.

Other athletic events which will be part of Cal Day include:
-the Golden Bears' nationally-ranked softball team in action against Oregon State at Levine-Fricke Field at 1 p.m.;

-men's tennis against Washington at the Hellman Tennis Complex at 1 p.m.;

-the fourth-ranked women's water polo team against Cal State Bakersfield at Spieker Aquatics Complex at 7 p.m.;

-the Big Meet with a full day of track and field action at Edwards Stadium. Field events begin at 9:30 and track events begin at noon.
